Hygiene Care
At Birchfield Dental Practice we encourage all patients, new and existing to attend regular hygiene care with our fantastic hygiene team.
We believe hygiene care is a vital aspect of your overall general & dental health and we pride ourselves on providing a comprehensive hygiene service including both preventative maintenance and non-surgical periodontal treatments to help treat and stabilise gum disease. If you are not a regular patient of the practice or if you see a dentist in another practice for your general dental care our friendly hygiene team can still see you under direct access. |
WHAT TO EXPECT AT BIRCHFIELD
Your first visit
Each and every examination performed at Birchfield includes an assessment of your periodontal (gum) health, if your dentist feels your gum health is less than perfect he will recommend a visit to the hygienist. Your hygienist will carry out a more detailed assessment of your periodontal health, provide you with advice and education about caring for teeth and gums and will help you develop a home care routine to improve the health of your mouth. She may also carry out a generalised cleaning of the teeth and depending upon the findings of any assessments she may talk to you about the treatment options available for treating gum disease. Maintaining a healthy mouth As well as regular dental check-ups we often recommend maintenance visits with the hygienist to help you keep your mouth as healthy as possible and depending upon your gum health this could be anything from every 3 - 12 months. Periodontal Programmes If you are suffering from gum disease your dentist and hygienist may recommend one of our periodontal programmes to help stabilise the disease and get your gums healthy. These programmes are very comprehensive and allow us to actively treat the disease and prevent its further progression. |
